Make sure you take the time to dress correctly for each paintball event. There are pants, shirts, helmets, and vests made specifically for the sport. All of your body should be protected, however, the eyes are the most critical. Never, ever, point your weapon at anyone's eyes. Never enter the combat zone without safety goggles and a protective helmet. Never fire in the direction of anyone who isn't wearing his or her safety gear. There will be those moments that someone temporarily loses, or is separated from their protective gear. A misdirected shot can inflict permanent damage to another player.
Remember that protected areas are for the safety of players, animals, and people not involved in tournament play. This means that you should never wonder out of bounds as a strategy for gaining the upper hand. Winning is good, but it's not everything. Observing rule play, and the safety of everyone involved is a far better reward in the end. Treat the paintball accessories as if they were real, because when it comes the possibility of inflicting harm-they are!
